Only surfaces with a results page (Google AI Overviews, SERP measurement) carry ads. Add an advertiser as a competitor →

For every tracked prompt Rixe records whether the page carried a placement, how many, which of them sat inside the AI answer rather than around it, and which advertiser owned each one. Your own placements are marked, so you can read your paid and organic presence on one prompt at once.

Ads inside the answer

A sponsored placement is not a banner off to the side. On the surfaces that carry them it sits in the answer, in the same shape as the recommendations around it.

What it pushes out

Answer space is finite. When a placement takes a line, an organic mention loses one — which is visible in the same prompt history you already track.

An advertiser is a competitor

Whoever pays to appear on your questions is competing for the same answer, whether or not anyone put them on the rival list. You can move one across in a click.

Engines covered

All eleven engines are on the menu — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral and Qwen. Your plan measures three; Leader measures all eleven. Some are read through a search surface and some through the provider's API, which changes how an answer is retrieved, not whether you may track it.

Reading ad load on a results page

AI Overviews are the one surface where this is straightforwardly countable, because the generated answer still sits inside a results page with ad slots above and below it. The measurement is therefore ordinary: run the question, look at the page, record whether ads rendered and who was in them.

Two readings come out of it and they answer different questions. Ad load — the share of your category's questions that trigger ads at all — tells you how commercial the category looks to Google. The advertiser list tells you who is willing to pay to stand next to an answer you might have been named in for free.

Advertisers that keep appearing beside your questions are competitors whether or not your deck says so, and adding them to the tracked set is usually the first useful thing this screen produces. The second is a shortlist of questions where paying might be cheaper than earning your way into the answer.

One surface for every part of the visibility loop

Six screens carry the whole job: read the answer, score it, find the sources behind it, and turn the gap into work someone can pick up.

Thoughts on Rixe

It's one of the products to look at for those who want to understand the GEO aspect. It offers a slightly different perspective from classic SEO reports.
I was most interested in the focus on brand perception. Being visible in AI is good, but it's also important whether the brand is shown positively, negatively, or just as an alternative. The problem Rixe is working on is really meaningful in this regard.
It has a simple product approach. It's good that they're trying to make a complex topic more understandable.

Frequently asked

Inside and beneath AI Overviews, and in the AI-mode experience where it has rolled out. The placement and the label differ by country, which is why the panel reports it per market.

Often yes, without anyone choosing it. That is worth knowing before you judge the channel: some of the spend you already report is being served next to an answer.

Controls vary by campaign type and by market, and they change. Check the campaign settings rather than assuming the default is what you want.

No. The answer cites sources; the ad sits beside it. The two are decided by different systems and neither pays into the other.

Against assisted sessions and orders in the same window, and against the organic answer for the same prompt. A rise in one with no movement in the other is the useful signal.

Reported behaviour differs by market and vertical, and the honest position is that the data is young. Judge it on your own conversions, not on a case study from another category.

Enough to cover the handful of prompts where you are absent organically and the intent is commercial. That is usually a small fraction of an existing search budget.

Yes. The prompts you are losing organically are the best possible targeting list, and that list lives in the same panel as the measurement.

Where the platform reports it, yes. Where it does not, the panel says the split is unavailable rather than estimating one.

Frequently, and that is the more important number here. The panel puts the ad line next to the organic answer for the same prompt so the trade is visible.
