How is Rixe different from an SEO tool?

An SEO tool measures where a page ranks on a results page. Rixe measures whether a brand is named inside an AI-generated answer, which position it holds among the brands mentioned, and which sources the model used to build that answer. The two rarely agree: a page can rank first in search and never appear in the AI answer to the same question, because the model draws on third-party sources such as review sites, forum threads and comparison articles.

The gap shows up the moment you compare the two reports side by side. A page can hold the first organic position for a query and be entirely absent from the AI answer to the same question, because the model never had to visit your site to answer it. It read a review roundup, a Reddit thread and a competitor's comparison page, and wrote its three names from those.

The remedies differ as much as the measurements. SEO work is largely work on pages you own: titles, structure, internal links, speed. Visibility work is mostly work on sources you do not own — getting a review profile current, getting a comparison page written, getting an outdated claim corrected at the place the model actually reads. Your own site still matters, but as one source among many rather than the destination.

The two are not in conflict. Most brands that rank well already have the raw material an AI answer needs; what they lack is any way to see which third-party source is shaping the sentence that follows their name.

Two different units of measurement

An SEO tool counts positions: this page, this keyword, this country, this day. An answer-visibility tool counts appearances: this question, this engine, this market, was the brand named and where in the order. One is a property of a page, the other a property of a sentence somebody else wrote about you.

Because the units differ, the two reports can disagree completely and both be right. A page can hold the first organic position for a query while the assistant answering the same question in plain language names three competitors and not you. Nothing is broken in that picture; they are measuring different surfaces.

Where the two overlap

The overlap is larger than the arguments suggest. The pages engines cite are overwhelmingly pages that already rank, because crawlability, authority and freshness feed both systems. Technical work done for search — clean rendering, sitemaps, fast responses, structured data — is not wasted here; it is a precondition nobody notices until it fails.

What does not transfer is the theory of the win. In search you win by being the best result for a query; in an answer you win by being the most quotable source for a claim — which rewards a sentence that stands on its own, a number with a date on it and a comparison somebody was willing to write down.

What a rank tracker cannot see

Four things live outside a rankings report entirely. The claim an engine makes about you — expensive, hard to set up, best for enterprise. The brands named beside you in the same sentence. The sources the answer was actually built from. And the disagreement between engines, which is where a category is still being decided.

The practical answer for most teams is to keep both instruments and stop asking them the same question. Search Console still tells you what happened on the results page; the answer measurement tells you what happened above it. A drop in clicks with a steady position is the case where only reading them together explains anything.

Frequently asked

No, and we would say so if it did. They answer where you rank; we answer whether you are in the sentence that replaced the click.

Almost none in daily use. The one place they touch is a query that now returns an answer above the list, and both tools should be open for that one.

Almost entirely. Access, structure, clarity and sources are the same craft; what changes is the surface you are optimising for and the number you report.

Crawl depth, index coverage, backlink graphs and keyword volumes. We read answers; those four are a different kind of data and we do not pretend to hold them.

Yes, and it is usually the same person. The two live in the same review because they explain different halves of the same traffic line.
